Abstract

This study is designed to make a comparative analysis of job satisfaction according to the types of hospitals and clinical careers with nurses working for the third and the second general hospitals as the subjects. Their number accounts for 264 and it took 17 days ranging from September 9, 2002 to September 25, 2002 to gather information with the help of questionnaires. The measurement tool used in this research was a modified version of 48 questions developed by Slavitt, et al.(1978): The instrument was co-developed by the researcher, three professors and nurses and composed of 26 question. The researcher depended on frequency analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA and Duncan-test for a material analysis.
The findings are as follows.
1.The survey indicates that the overall average of job satisfaction based on the types of hospitals stood at 2.76(¡¾.52) in case of the third hospitals and at 2.70(¡¾.45) in case of the second hospitals and that the subjects were neither highly satisfied or dissatisfied. In terms of areas, the relationship among coworkers turned out to be highest in case of both of the hospitals and the subjects proved to be least satisfied with the nurse-supporting system in case of the third hospitals and the subjects in the second hospitals turned out to be least satisfied with wages.
2.Job satisfaction based on clinical careers were statistically significant(F=9.98, P<.000), and the overall average of job satisfaction during apprenticeship turned out to be highest(2.90¡¾0.48), and the average turned out to be lowest at a stage of proficiency(2.49¡¾0.45).
3.The survey shows that job satisfaction by question of each area according to the types of hospitals was highest in such areas of specialty, self-regulation, wages and the nurse-supporting system in the third hospitals, and highest in the area of the relationship between nurses and doctors working for the second hospitals, where there was no significant difference in terms of the relationship between high-ups and subordinates and the relationship between supporting departments.
4.In terms of the questions of each area based on clinical careers, job satisfaction turned out to be highest at a stage of mastery in all the areas and there was no significant difference in the relationship between nurses and doctors.
All in all, the research would like to say that it is necessary for nurses to engage in active interaction and put trust in one another with a view to enhancing the job satisfaction of nurses and that it is also necessary to make a study of measures to reinforce the leadership of nurse managers and that a variety of researches should be made to affect job satisfaction.
